ABOUT THE ARTIST
Jeanne R. Smith is
a portrait and landscape artist who recently moved to Massachusetts after living
in New Jersey for eleven years.
After earning a Ph.D. in
English and American Literature, teaching university English for ten years, and
publishing her book, Writing Tricksters, Ms. Smith decided to pursue her
love of art full time.
Ms. Smith has
studied art at Georgetown University and at the duCret School of Art with Rhoda
Yanow. She teaches art classes to adults and children, both privately and
through local community schools.
Smith finds
inspiration in the simple moments that reveal character and life, in both the
people and the places she's drawn to. Her landscapes, which often feature the
perched villages along the coasts of Italy and Southern France, reflect her love
of Mediterranean light and color—an appreciation which she gained while living
and studying in Nice, France. She discovered a love of portraiture when she
first picked up pastels and sketched her daughter’s picture. She recently
completed three portraits for the national exhibit "Faces
of the Fallen" at the Women's Memorial at
Arlington
National Cemetery, a project which memorializes soldiers killed in Iraq and
Afghanistan.
