Beauty is everywhere if we know where to look for it.  Light illumines and glorifies the everyday in unexpected ways, and the magic of that light captivates me.  Painting those surprising, delightful moments is a privilege and an absolute joy.  I capture my inspiration quickly with pastel's luxurious colors, ready at my fingertips.  Gradually building layers, I develop my painting as a whole, creating subtle tonal shifts as I accentuate the light, playing with and pushing color to express my initial vision.   Working on archival sanded paper allows an underpainting and up to twenty layers of pastel, creating a distinctive style of rich, deep color and painterly realism.
